![]() Sorcerers don't need to memorize spells like Wizards do. MagicThere are several changes to the spells system in the new rules but the most significant is the introduction of the Sorcerer class. It's a more flexible system that allows players to carefully control the skills of their characters. Instead of starting experience between classes, characters choose what class they want to advance in when they gain a level. Multi-ClassingThe multi-classing system is significantly different than the previous system. Now ability scores give bonuses starting at 12 and penalties starting at 9. In the previous rules, a character had to have a very extreme score, such as 16 or 5 to get either bonuses or penalties. SkillsSkills in the New rules replace proficiencies and some class abilities from the previous rules. Every time a sorcerer gains a level where they would learn a new spell, an interface screen pops up giving the remaining spells of that magnitude that they can choose from. They get new spell slots as they go up in levels and can cast any spell they know as many times as they have slots in that spell magnitude. Sorcerers are handled exactly as they are in 3rd Edition. The upcoming title will take place ten years after the end of the previous game. This was the beginning of the so-called Gold Box series, 12 titles that are still favorites among role-players. You'll start in the port city of New Phlan, the original site of the first Pool of Radiance and travel to the ancient City of Myth Drannor, located in the forest kingdom of Cormanthor.And if you don't believe us when we say that the game is looking sharp, we can prove it. It's set in the Moonsea region of the Forgotten Realms. And while Ubi Soft is publishing the title, it will still bear the SSI brand. The game is being developed by Stormfront Studios, who oldtimers will remember from SSI's classic Gold Box series. The builds we've seen so far are quite complete and we hope that the extra month or so of polish and balancing will really pay off once the game lands on store shelves.
